Ani Difranco
Angela Maria Ani DiFranco is an American-Canadian artist and singer. She has released over 20 albums. DiFranco's songs are classified as folk and alternative rock. But, they have influences from hip hop music, jazz and punk. A feminist icon widely recognized as Grammy award winner Ani DiFranco is the mother of the DIY movement being one of the pioneers to establish her own record label in 1990. DiFranco's parents, Elizabeth (Ross), a previous student at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Dante Americo DiFranco met each other while they were both attending. Her father was of Italian heritage and her mother was born in Montreal. The song by Ani, 32 Flavors, was composed by her and is performed by Ani. This song appeared on her 5th studio album Not a Pretty Girl which was released in 1995. It was also featured on the soundtrack of the Canadian romantic comedy Better Than Chocolate, released in 1999. DiFranco apologized for hosting a workshop in Louisiana in an old plantation for slaves. She cancelled it but many (including the author of this article) were not able to sense any regret. DiFranco apologized again a few days afterward. Little Folksinger is an artist who has performed with artists ranging from Pete Seeger, Chuck D and Prince. The singer hails from New Orleans. Ani DiFranco lives with Kristen Ford. She started writing songs at the age of 14. She performed them in bars and coffeehouses throughout her teenage years. DiFranco, who graduated at the age of 16 at the age of 16, from Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts High School, began taking classes in Buffalo State College. Ani's new baritone was custom-built by Alvarez guitar, designed by Chrys Johnston, who at the time was an Alvarez Artist Rep. The guitar is equipped with their System 600 amp and is constructed from solid woods. This includes the body with a mahogany top and cedar sides featuring an ebony fretboard. She's home with her two kids living in New Orleans and Lefty, their canine companion who is always in the frame. DiFranco has been 30 years old, says that looking back at the past has caused her to have mixed emotions.
