Coleman was born in Blackpool Lancashire. She was the head girl for the Arnold School, Blackpool and was awarded straight A's on her A level. Steven Moffat, the producer of Doctor Who confirmed in a 21st March 2012 press conference that Coleman will play Matt Smith's partner in the event that Karen Gillan left.
