Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on the 28th of October, 1967 to Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Roberts belongs to four generations of the Robertses to live in the Atlanta area, starting with her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts a farmer. Her father's passion for theatre was inherited by her. in theatre from an early age. While a student at Emory University he appeared in various productions both at and off the campus. When he joined the Air Force In 1953, he starred in an air force production in Biloxi together with Betty Lou Bredemus. The couple got married in 1955, and their first son Eric Anthony was born in 1956. Walter along with his wife were discharged from the military in the year 1957, when they enrolled Walter at Tulane University. Walter was hired to work for Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio to work on the set of Bum Bum and His Buddies. The show was filmed in Decatur Georgia. Walter as well as Betty Lou produced a Saturday matinee local TV show that was aimed at children, called Bum Bum and His Buddies in 1964. It was a venture that they funded themselves. They also established a six-year Actors and Writers Workshop later in the year. The couple had another two children, Lelisa Billingsley (1965) (also named Lisa), and Julia Billingsley (1967) (also also known as Julie).
